    Bed Rails and Fall Prevention
Can bed rails really prevent falls? Fall prevention is a tricky subject. Many experts realize the huge epidemic that falls have become in our country, but many are not sure exactly how to prevent falls from happening in the first place.

Fortunately there are many things we can do to at the very least begin to prevent falls and fall related injury's in our homes or place of living. Over the next couple of weeks we will go over some of the steps you may want to consider taking to improve safety when getting out of your bed, up at night, or walking about.

Today we will go over how you can make your bathroom a safer place for you or your elderly loved one. Bathroom safety is essential for fall prevention. Most falls and fall related injury's occur in the bathroom area. This is because when water is introduced to an area many injury's can and often times do happen. That is what we are covering bathroom safety in our first post.

To begin getting your bathroom area ready check to see if you have tile flooring. Tile flooring installed in your bathroom is typical for most homes. This can be very dangerous for elderly individuals. Of course you do not want to go out and buy carpet to cover the tile in the bathroom. A slip resistant mat or something that will not move when pressure is introduced to it would be perfect.

It is important that the rug or mat you do buy has some way of gripping to the floor so users can get in and out of the tub while stepping on and using it. Consider visiting a store that sells safety equipment for elderly individuals. There is a good chance they can help you find a mat or rug that would be right for your situation. If you do not have a lot of time consider searching online for what your looking for.

There are also many more things you can do to not only make your bathroom safer, but your bed room as well. Bed rails installed at a users bedside can give users the confidence back that they may have had before falling. And bed rails may very well prevent the next fall from happening by providing a solid steel support when the elderly individual needs it most.

We will go over more ways you can get your room setup for fall safety over the coming weeks, including how to set up lighting for an elderly individuals, how to make an elderly loved one more independent and safe at bedside, and also help on where to buy products that can help you or your loved one stay safe at home. Staying home is important to many people all over the world. Of course if you are unsafe to do so you simply will need to go somewhere that you can get the proper care you need. If you can be in a safer environment you may be able to stay home after all.
